One of the bulbs in my Hella Rallye 4000s burned out, so I was thinking of replacing and upgrading both. I use them for offroad, or for very late night drives through the Adirondack highways, where being able to see a half mile down the road has saved me from deer several times.

Id rather have the beam be yellowish then too blue as I do a lot of snow driving. and I find the blue light of some cars headlights fatiguing. So i guess between 3000k and 4000k?

I used the !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! which bypasses the gm one, except where it plugs into the highbeam fuse, so thats all set. Do I have to worry about the the bulbs that have high and low beam? How do i know that its the highbeam filament in the bulb thats activated?

!!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! , one euro beam, one pencil. The bulbs are Hella H1 100w (H83115051)

Unless non crap HID kits are $40 for two, Id rather stay with the halogen bulbs

Kinja'd!!!

I really should submit one of these to blipshift

The options I can see, after browsing various forums, candlepower, rally, and otherwise are as follows

Replace with current ~$10

Hella - High Proformance 2.0 55w (H83300002) ~$20 pair or like $50 if some one takes the deal on ebay

Hella - H1 13ow - $10 (The wiring harness is beefy, and the hellas are big hunks of metal, I should be ok right?, and if they burn out theyre cheap to replace too. Plus I actually like the current beams, but I hunger for moar. These are the current #1)

Philips - Rally or Rally Vision, 55w ~$8 for a pair? (I may order a pair of these anyway for a giggle m8)

Philips - X-Treme Vision H1 +100 or +130 (55w=100w or whatever their marketing came up with) ~$30 (this is the one ive heard a lot of good about, current #2)

PIAA - H1 XTreme White Plus 55w = 100w $60 - $80 (Apparently these are really good, but you pay for it)

Any reason I shouldn’t go with the 130w Hella bulb? Ive got the wiring harness, the heavy duty alternator, the big ass metal lights, what could possibly go wrong?

Muh Loomens dump. Lets see if every single one of these comes out upside down.

This was MUCH MUCH tighter then it looks

Yes Those are shelving brackets. But they’re the 8 inch heavy duty shelving brackets. They dont shake - much.

Its not easy backing 20 ft of truck through a bunch of stumps to turn around in the tiniest alcove on the trail. I took pictures to commemorate.

LED lights. They’re expensive but will make those things look like candles by comparison, and they will last longer than the truck.

If the current setup already works well, just keep it and replace the bulb. It’s always fun to get new stuff but save your money for other new stuff.

I have a set of old Rallye 1000's that came with my 92 Range Rover. I just bought a set of basic Sylvania Halogen 55W bulbs and they work great. I personally wouldn’t risk putting the 130W on mine, but I have British electrics and a wiring harness I bought off Amazon.

Side question: Do you leave those covers on when parked? I have a set and I think they look great, but I’m so worried about someone swiping them that I never use them.

Well the lights are only held on with a nut so not really. But luckily my commute is back and forth from upstate NY college to Connecticut, so either spot is pretty safe. I would not want to park it with the lamps even on In some places rougher, but then I'd also be concerned about the shovel and are in the bed.

Yeah but it’s either spend $10 on the 100w bulbs or $10 on the 130s. It's pretty much free!

I fear they might lack the throw of a halogen or a hid. And wouldnt mesh well with the housing. See why light bars suck.

You can get LED light pods in a round housing.

Spend $10 on a bulb or $10 on a car fire? Hmmm... Seriously the 130W is probably ok, but you know, I’m a bit chicken sometimes!

Hey.

I have a decent amount of experience with lights and stuff, so I’ll chime in.

First off, bulbs. Don’t buy any bulb that isn’t made in Europe. I don’t care if its PIAA, Hella, Satan, or Jesus brand.. if it’s made in Asia it’s junk.

Second, color temp. I LOVE amber aux lighting. Love it. Won’t have any car without it. BUT- amber/3k bulbs SUCK. Most of them toss the blue out of the back of the bulb and give you weird ass reflections. Best solution? Tint the glass. With what you ask? Use Duplicolor Metalcast spray paint . Clean the lamp, and do a LOT of VERY LIGHT coats. Like 3-4 sprays at a time. Good news is, it dries fast that way.

Third, your 4000s look like they’re driving beam. A yellow driving beam is kinda silly. You can pick up fog beam Hella 500s for dirt (round and rectangle... hell, you can still buy rectangle ones, actually they’re Hella 550s, that are yellow from the factory. It’s hella hard (lol) and expensive to get yellow 500s. I know, I’ve been looking and don’t want to spend $150 on a set of them from eBay Australia.

LEDs are great for throwing a shit ton of light all over the fucking place. My 52" bar is insane but also useless. I use it more to get a chuckle out of how dumb it is than to actually use it while driving.

Anyway, I suggest Osram Nightbreaker Ultra or the Philips X-treme Vision +130s you already have in your list. I usually buy my stuff from Powerbulbs if Amazon doesn’t carry it.
